In Re: Anthony D. Walker and Denicia P. Walker
The Maryland Court of Appeals held that a lien filed by a homeowners’ association or condominium can only secure money due at the time the lien is filed. The Court’s decision halts an abusive practice whereby some law firms representing HOAs and condominiums claimed that a lien could secure monies that homeowners never had a right to challenge because they were not owed at the time of the line.

L.D. & K.D. v. HOA
After an HOA was awarded its attorneys’ fees after a dispute with one of the residents, the couple retained Mr. Skipper. A letter he authored caused the HOA’s insurance to pay the attorneys’ fee award on behalf Mr. Skipper’s clients. When the HOA still wanted to move forward against the homeowners, Mr. Skipper brought competing claims alleging defamation based on allegedly false statements made by the HOA President.
